Mr. Edward Ortega
Hello, my name is Edward Ortega, and I am from Barranquilla, Colombia and I am extremely proud to be the principal of such prestigious school. I graduated in 2001 from Universidad del Atlántico in Colombia as Modern Languages Teacher. I taught in Colombia for five years before venturing to the United States. I have been teaching English as Second Language since 2004 and I enjoy every minute of my time in the classroom with my students. My passion for teaching has not changed over time! As for today, I still feel like I am a very committed and effective teacher.
As an educator and a leader, I believe in creating a space where cultural diversity is embraced and used to nurture the personal and academic lives of the students we serve as a school community. In an ever-changing society where the classroom of the 21st century is multicultural, it is important for teachers to acknowledge the richness that cultural heritages from different ethnic groups bring to the school setting. What is more, this cultural richness maximizes classroom interactions and promotes self-identity development.
I am extremely excited to be the Principal of STEM Early High School and I hope to work closely with you all to bring the school to levels it has not been before because this is STEM, this is OUR school!
